Now, this came to mind today when I was sitting side-seat during work, staring into the distance.

For many years now have I tried to turn a usable idea into a full story, 300 pages long. Many ideas I had were good, yet frustration often set in as I realised my inability to do what I wanted, leading to them being left incomplete, forgotten and deleted. Many times, I have wanted to stop writing.

But today, I told myself, what is wrong with focusing on short stories? Plenty of people here do it, and they work well. It just has a different effect on reading.
Imagine Lord of the Rings told in the space of one book. We'd have to imagine the battles ourselves from remarks and thoughts coming from the main characters.

An example from my own story "the marriage". Cid cursing and slashing the robot. Now, did they fight any others then the three I told were destroyed in the last moment? You figure it out.
Did Elene get to see the 'big summon', and just how big was it? All yours to decide.

Then there are short stories that simply show one scene or time, which I like about stories from that I have read. Those also work well, as they don't make you follow all the stuff around. Just one thing is important, and that is the subject of that story.

So if you are like I was, and you wish you could write long stories. Just remember, short stories are good to do too.
